Starting your career is a scary and exciting step in anyone’s life. Embarking on the next chapter in your life comes with a lot of questions, and we get that. That’s why we have composed a list of the most frequently asked questions and answers.
Once my initial training is complete, are there any ongoing training classes? Both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s spend a great deal of time on training individuals at all levels of the organization, and all employees can expect several stages of training as they are promoted. All executives may select from various refresher courses.
How long will I have to remain in a position before I can be promoted? Promotion is based on experience, performance and the availability of open positions so there are no specific guidelines that cover all scenarios. You will, however, find that every job and every promotion is based on your performance. We do recommend that you stay in a position for one year before pursuing your next opportunity.
Will I have the opportunity to grow? We want you to grow! You can follow a designated career path and grow to management-level positions within your job function, or you can explore a career path that allows you to gain experience in many different functions of the organization including district and regional field positions, marketing, operations, and more.
Will I be at a disadvantage if I don’t have any prior retail experience? Prior retail experience is not a requirement. By combining hands-on training, classroom style learning, and an emphasis on problem solving, we teach you how to utilize your current strengths while developing new skills that set you up for success. Our training programs give you an extensive look into our strategies, systems, and business model, preparing you to drive results and run a successful business.
What majors are you looking for when you recruit? We recruit from all academic majors and we are looking for future leaders. Students should be able to articulate their potential value to the organization regardless of academic background.
What is the difference between an Internship and the Executive Development Program? Internships are reserved for undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year in college and are available during the summer.
The Executive Development Program is designed for the recent college graduate, usually within 12 months of their graduation date and is a full-time executive position. This position combines an intensive training program with the responsibility of on-the-job accountability in your field.
What do I do if Macy’s, Inc. does not recruit on my campus? The macyscollege.com and bloomingdalescollege.com websites are designed to reach out to students who can become leaders in our organization, no matter where they go to school. If you are talented and are the right fit for our current and future business needs, we want to know you.
You may submit an applicant profile for our review and attach a resume as well by clicking "Search Jobs" anywhere on the site.
I submitted a profile online and have not heard back from a recruiter. When will I be contacted for an interview? You will receive an immediate auto-response to your email. In addition, a recruiter will follow-up with correspondence if there is an appropriate match between your interests, skills and experiences and available opportunities.
Does Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s sponsor international students with Visas? Students must be able to present documentation indicating their legal eligibility to work in the U.S. Students should also keep in mind that our opportunities are very competitive based on the number of applicants and our objective of career growth and longevity. Consideration should be given to long-term career objectives.
Does Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s offer Housing assistance during internships? We currently do not offer paid housing assistance (we do offer paid internships!) and encourage students to research housing opportunities in their host city. Once an internship is secured, the college recruiting team can provide you with helpful hints about how to pursue housing during your internship.
